Each last Wednesday of November, the entire ELSA network celebrates ELSA Day. Each year, this is organised around a theme concerning human rights. In 2016, ELSA the Netherlands’ theme is migration law in the EU . The Dutch Network will not only celebrate ELSA Day on the 30th of November, but exclaimed the month November as ELSA Month!
Over the entire month, all local ELSA groups within the Dutch ELSA network organise different activities about Migration Law. Some organise lectures, inviting academics, NGO’s or Syrian refugees. On the 30th, all local groups will come together at the office of our partner DLA Piper Nederland for the national ELSA Day event.
The afternoon will start with various lectures on different topics pertaining to migration law in the EU, given by mw. dr. T. de Lange and S. Rainone (PhD-student Tilburg Law School; Department of Labour Law and Social Policy). Following the lectures, the students will engage in a panel discussion with the experts. The day will then transition into the human rights focussed topic of statelessness as a result of migration, with a lecture given by mw. K.J. Swider MSc. This will be followed by a simulation of the drafting of a treaty regarding the issue. Finally, the day will be wrapped up by the Local ELSA Groups, who will each be given the opportunity to present and share their respective ELSA Days. This will be held in the form of a speeddate, where everyone can walk around and speak to the Local ELSA Day organizers. To close the day, we will have drinks at DLA Piper with all the students, experts and lawyers involved and present at E:SA the Netherlands’ ELSA Day 2016.
